The new look of BPS District 101
Over the past six months, Batavia Public School District 101 has been involved in a process of updating our visual identity; namely our website, District logo, and school mascots. The initial goal of the project was not only to provide an updated look and feel of the District, but also to provide visual consistency of the various schools and mascots that make up BPS101. After a series of interviews with key stakeholders, comparative analysis, and revisions, we are proud to unveil the new branding of Batavia Public School District 101 and the eight schools that make it so special.
After much debate and consideration, the decision was made to establish a logo for Batavia Public School District 101 that made it distinct from the Batavia High School bulldog. We chose to create a logo without the iconic bulldog for many reasons. One of our primary goals was to create a logo that incorporates the special characteristics and vision of the District through symbolic design elements. In addition, we believe that keeping the District logo distinct from the bulldog logo allows us to celebrate all of the schools that make up BPS101, rather than only the middle and high schools. We are very excited for this opportunity to take ownership of an updated brand.
The Batavia District logo design includes a valiant shield to demonstrate the security BPS101 offers to foster growth and learning among Batavia students. Shields have a long history of representing a people group with pride and celebration. This mark combines the shield concept with a book to tie in an academic element. The eight pages (including those implied by the shield itself) represent the eight schools within the District, showing that with each new school lies a new opportunity to learn and develop.
We are especially excited to announce the updated school mascots for each school. The family of mascots maintains one cohesive style, making each instantly recognizable as part of the larger collection. Each mascot features its own unique characteristics, most of which are derived from the former mascots. Not only are the mascots themselves updated, but the logo type also provides consistency for each of the schools with a modern look and feel.
The District is thrilled for this change in our community’s identity, and we look forward to seeing these mascots and logos displayed with pride around our community.
