Honoring William Freiburger

Seventeen teams of former and current BHS Tennis Team members, family, and friends all came together on Sun., July 15 to play in an inaugural tennis tournament to benefit the William Freiburger Scholarship Fund.

Established this year to honor BHS student Will Freiburger, who passed away from a life-threatening condition during the 2017-18 school year, the $1,000 scholarship will be awarded annually to an outstanding BHS senior who is a member of the BHS Tennis Team and who also serves in the community in numerous ways. The scholarship will be awarded at the end of each school year.

“We will hold a tournament during the weekend of Windmill City Fest every year to raise funds for this scholarship,” said Brad Nelson, head coach of the boys and girls BHS tennis teams and fourth-grade teacher at Louise White Elementary School. “We were overwhelmed by the turnout for the inaugural event and plan to build momentum each year to honor Will and his spirit, and reward and celebrate a current graduating student who exemplifies the qualities that made Will so special.”
