BPS101 Board Welcomes New Members

Last night’s BPS101 Board of Education meeting marked a significant moment in Batavia’s education system as three newly elected board members were officially sworn into office. The new members, Rob Arulandu, Raquel Gonzalez-Thomas, and Danielle Sligar, were elected by the community to serve as board members and will work alongside existing board members to continue providing quality education to the students of our community.

The Board meeting was separated into two parts; the first portion of the Board Meeting addressed the business of the Board and celebrated the accomplishments of the three outgoing members, Cathy Dremel, Erin Meitzler, and Chris Lowe, at the beginning of the second part, the three new members took their oath of office, pledging to uphold the duties and responsibilities of their position.

“We are pleased to welcome our newly elected board members, who bring a wealth of experience and dedication to our school district,” said Dr. Lisa Hichens, the District’s superintendent. “We are confident that their contributions will help us continue to provide high-quality education and support for our students.”

The newly elected board members expressed their excitement and gratitude for the opportunity to serve on the board and positively impact the education system in Batavia. “I look forward to working with the entire board, and let’s get some stuff done,” said Rob Arulandu. “I look forward to working with all of you to make BPS101 a top-tier District, and as I look at this Board, I am glad we have some representation,“ said Raquel Gonzalez-Thomas. Danielle Sligar gave the final new Board member comment, “I can say with confidence that we are going to do everything we can to serve the entire community and really make sure that every voice is thought about when we make decisions and have conversations.”

As the board members begin their term, they will be tasked with welcoming a new superintendent in July and developing a facilities master plan in the wake of the District’s referendum failures in November 2022 and April 2023.

The BPS101 Board of Education is committed to providing high-quality education to all students and looks forward to working with the newly elected board members to achieve this goal.
