Autism Acceptance Month, Infinite Possibilities
April is Autism Acceptance Month. This year, the Autism Society is connecting with the community with #CelebrateDifferences. Here is some information from their website:
What is Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)?
Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), hereafter referred to as Autism (which includes Asperger’s Disorder and Pervasive Developmental Disorder – Not Otherwise Specified [PDD-NOS]), is a complex, lifelong developmental condition that typically appears during early childhood and can impact a person’s social skills, communication, relationships, and self-regulation. The Autism experience is different for everyone. It is defined by a certain set of behaviors and is often referred to as a “spectrum condition” that affects people differently and to varying degrees.
Everyone’s story is different.
The experience of Autism is not one thing. It is many things. It’s dreams, talents, relationships, victories, hurdles, and everything in between. The connection between those experiences is you.
You break the mold. No matter who you are, the person you are is infinite—and you are the only you there is.
To illustrate this “infinite” experience of Autism, Angelina Artwohl, BHS Graphics Student, created this beautiful piece of art as a symbol of Autism Acceptance Month. We celebrate her and the art she creates.
