Alternative Learning Opportunities
Some students need educational supports and other support services that are not currently provided by their regular school program. In order to address these needs, BPS101 offers a Positive Achievements With Supports (PAWS) program at Batavia High School and Rotolo Middle School, which is authorized under the State of Board of Education’s Alternative Learning Opportunities Program (ALOP).
BHS and RMS students enrolled in PAWS receive a broad range of academic, behavioral, and social/emotional interventions designed to increase their academic achievement levels so they are able meet the Illinois Learning Standards and complete their education in a personalized learning environment. Once PAWS is identified as an appropriate intervention for a student, an individual plan is crafted based on his/her needs and goals. Each student’s success is measured individually.
Students eligible for enrollment in the PAWS program are those who:
- are in grades 6 through 12
- are considered to be at risk of academic failure, and
- demonstrate a need for educational support or social services beyond those that the regular school program provides.
